- WELCOME TO THE CUB SCOUT PACK 260 WEBSITE
Cub Scout Pack 260 is based out of Glendale, Ohio. Our charter organization is St. Gabriel Consolidated School, our local council is Dan Beard Council, and our district is Maketewa District. Many of the scouts in our pack attend St. Gabriel, but it’s not a requirement to join our pack. If you're interested in joining Pack 260, please contact us. We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have and welcome your child into our pack.
WHAT IS CUB SCOUTS?Cub Scouts is the first phase of the scouting program offered by the Scouts BSA. After Cub Scouts, boys can continue into other programs which include Scouting(11-17 year olds), Venturing (14-20, avocation or hobby oriented), Varsity Scouting (sports oriented), Exploring (14-20, career oriented) and other specialty programs.
Cub Scouts is for boys and girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade. In Cub Scouts, Scouts become part of a Pack and that pack is sub-divided into smaller groups, or Dens, by rank and grade (Lion - Kindergarten, Tiger – 1st grade, Wolf – 2nd grade, Bear – 3rd grade, Webelos – 4th grade and Arrow of Light – 5th grade). Dens can vary in size, but a typical den will be made up of 6-8 Scouts. Packs are sponsored by community groups such as churches, schools and other service groups that want to provide a program for boys. Our sponsor, or Charter Organization, is St. Gabriel Consolidated School in Glendale, Ohio. Many of the Scouts in our pack attend St. Gabriel, but it’s not a requirement to join our pack.
WHAT DO CUB SCOUTS DO?The 10 Purposes of Cub Scouting are Character Development, Spiritual Growth, Good Citizenship, Sportsmanship and Fitness, Family Understanding, Respectful Relationships, Personal Achievements, Friendly Service, Fun and Adventure and Preparation for Boys Scouts. Everything we do as a Pack is driven by these purposes. The Pack will oversee and coordinate the membership, advancement and major activities for the scouts while the Dens will work together to learn various skills, earn awards and complete required activities to advance to the next rank. Most of this work will be completed in Pack and Den Meetings but may include outdoor activities and field trips where appropriate. In addition, many activities will be completed by the scout and his parents working together. Den activities are led by the individual Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders, but we encourage families and parents to get involved and help out whenever they can. We are a family oriented group and always strive to plan family oriented activities that encourages family participation whenever possible. In general, our schedule is aligned with the school year and our activities typically run from September through May. As a Pack we will meet, or have a pack event, once a month. These events can change from year to year, but we do things like Rocket Launches, Christmas Tree Decorating and Caroling, Pinewood Derby, Rock Climbing, Turkey Fry, Blue and Gold Banquet and more. In addition, Dens will typically meet once a month with the exception of the Tiger Den as they will generally have a Den Meeting and a Go See It each month.LEADERSHIPCub Scouts is run by volunteers. Every year, parents and family members volunteer to be committee members, den leaders, and event helpers. Our success and your son’s success depends heavily on you being involved with the pack. Anything you can do to help out, from volunteering to be a committee member, a den leader, heading up an event, helping out with our activities throughout the year to providing us with a connection to a cool outing or tour opportunity, is greatly appreciated. Please note your son’s safety and well being our very important to us. We follow all BSA guidelines when it comes to safety and child protection as well as every volunteer must complete Virtus Training and a Background Check.HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?The 2022 annual fees to join our Pack 260 are $77.50. In addition, you are responsible for your son’s uniform which includes a shirt, neckerchief and slide. You can also purchase pants, but most of our scouts wear their school pants or shorts as part of their uniform. In addition, your scout may want a hat and a scout belt (to display their belt loops as the earn them). All your uniform and scouting needs can be purchased at your local Dan Beard Scout Shop located at 10078 Reading Road, Cincinnati, OH 45241.
Each scout who joins our pack will be given a complimentary Pack 260 T-Shirt which can be worn at many of our events where the Class A uniform isn't required. Parents and siblings may purchase their own Pack 260 T-Shirt for a very nominal fee and we also have pink shirts for the moms and sisters.
Scout Life is a scouting magazine that is optional. You can purchase this for $12 per year and your scout will receive a monthly issue with all sorts of scouting information and stories.
